RIDING ARKANSAS

Arkansas provides a motorcyclist the opportunity to ride almost year round, depending on how well he or she can adapt to
heat or cold. Although winter temperatures in Arkansas can drop to 15 degrees, the average wintertime temperature is 54
degrees. Summertime temperatures can reach 100 and above.

The northern and western mountainous regions experience much colder winters and milder summers than the southern regions,
although the southern part of the state can also experience below freezing temperatures in winter.

Summers can be humid and temperatures typically reach the high 90's. Rainfall varies from about 45 inches annually in the
mountainous regions to 50 to 55 inches in the delta. Annual average snowfall ranges from 10.4 inches in the extreme northwest
to 2.8 inches in the lowlands of the southeast.

Arkansas ranks 27th among the states in size with a land surface of 53,104 square miles. The eastern portion of the state
consists of fertile valleys of the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers, with agricultural land dominated by cotton, rice and soybeans.

North and west portions include the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains. The state is about equally divided between highlands and
lowlands and nearly half of the state is forested.

Elevations in the mountainous regions vary from 200 to 2,700 feet above sea level. Mount Magazine, in the Ouachita range, is
the highest point in the state with an elevation of 2,753 feet.

Little Rock, the capital of Arkansas, is located near the geographical center of the state. From here you can travel in almost any
direction and be treated to some of the most beautiful scenery this country has to offer. If you like winding, twisting , roads,
head West out of Little Rock on Highway 10, toward Fort Smith. Jump on over to Hwy. 9 and then to 154 at Oppelo. Hwy.
154 takes you over Petit Jean Mountain for a picturesque view of the Arkansas River Valley from the grave site of Petit Jean.
Take 154 West to the little town of Centerville, and take Scenic Highway 7 South to Hot Springs. After a relaxing tour of Bath
House row, your can take Hwy 70 East to I-30 and return to Little Rock.
